Burrata Wreath Appetizer

This burrata wreath appetizer is just as delicious as it is festive. I’ve made various versions of this appetizer over the years. This is one recipe that everyone truly loves. Plus, it couldn’t be easier to make. It’s great served room temp, so takes some of the stress off (especially around the holidays) for keeping warm or cold.

Burrata Wreath Appetizer

Ingredients

  • 1 French baguette
  • extra virgin olive oil to taste (at least 2 tablespoons, plus more for brushing)
  • 1 large garlic clove
  • 1 ball of burrata cheese
  • 1 pint cherry or grape tomatoes
  • salt & pepper to taste
  • giardiniera Italian mix peppers mild or hot, to taste
  • fresh basil, chopped
  • fresh herbs for garnish (I used rosemary, basil and dill)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 300 degrees.
  • Slice baguette into even slices. I was able to get 13 slices to fit comfortably on my board. You may get more or less depending on the size of your board. Brush or drizzle extra virgin olive oil over each slice. Bake at 300 degrees for 10-15 minutes, flipping halfway through. The bread should start to turn golden brown but not be too crunchy.
  • Remove bread from oven and cool slightly. Rub the clove of garlic over each piece.
  • While bread is baking, heat 1-2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil over medium heat in a frying pan. Once oil has heated, turn down to medium-low. Add tomatoes and cook until tomatoes burst. You should be able to easily smash them down with the back of a spoon. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Finely cut burrata until it looks like the consistency of cottage cheese.
  • Add to each piece of bread: burrata, tomatoes, giardiniera, basil.
  • Arrange bread into a circle and add fresh herbs for garnish.
  • Serve and enjoy!

SUBSTITUTIONS FOR BURRATA

If you think you don’t like burrata, try it! It is delicious and mild in flavor. It is a crowd-pleasing cheese. I’ve never met anyone who doesn’t like it. It is sold at most grocery stores – even Walmart and Aldi. Look for it in the specialty cheese section by the fresh mozzarella. If you absolutely can’t find it, I recommend subbing in fresh mozzarella instead. You can melt the mozzarella on the bread in the oven before adding the remaining ingredients.
