I love living in Iowa, but winter right now is just brutal. You know this already even if you don’t live in the great state of Iowa, unless of course you’ve been living under a rock with no Internet connection. I can’t help but find myself day dreaming about sunshine, sandy beaches and frozen cocktails. I have even gone so far as to create an elaborate fantasy of me on a tropical vacation, which is currently playing in my head on a continuous loop. In said fantasy, I’m sitting in a luxurious beach chair, next to a waterfall pool overlooking the ocean at a swanky resort, while I casually sip strawberry daiquiris, yelling “refill” to Dmitri, my personal pool attendant. In my fantasy, I also have a killer bod (obviously), new bikini with matching cover-up, perfectly manicured nails and am rocking a sun-kissed glow. I set this scene for my husband, in hopes that he gets on board immediately but am rudely interrupted with phrases like: “I have a job!”, “We have a budget!” and quite possibly the worst one of all, “I like winter!” Unlike my husband, the Internet seems to really understand me and curiously always knows exactly what I’m thinking at all times. My social feeds as of late have been non-stop ads for sundresses, sunless tanning products and swimwear. But let’s be honest, I’d sooner jump off a cliff than try on swimwear right now because “winter bod” has taken on a whole new meaning in my life. No joke, I look like Winnie the Pooh and Piglet had a baby. A baby with Pooh’s build and Piglet’s completion. You get the picture – and it ain’t pretty.
Now, as disgusted as I am with the idea of personally trying on swimwear at the moment, there are some items in my closet that I can totally get down with. A poncho is one of those items. Believe it or not, there is more than one way to style a poncho and I’m about to show you, not one, but three ways to do just that. This poncho is currently sold out at Root & Flowers, but they do have a couple alternatives. If you see anything you like on their site, use my code thechicishchick for 20% off your purchase. Guys, this poncho sold out in a matter of days. It went faster than I could write this article.
Option #1: Weekend casual. It’s simple. Just add a jogger, which also happens to be an item in my closet that I can totally get down with.
Option #2: Still casual, but a little more put together with the dark denim.
Option #3: Totes work appropriate. Add a button down shirt/skinny pant combo and you’re office ready.
And there you have it, my friends. Fashion 3peat: Poncho Edition. Which look was your favorite?
See ya on the next post!
