Here’s the thing. Home decor is subjective. A lot of designers are making bank, designing spaces that just aren’t my jam, leaving me saying, “WTF was she thinking?!?” On the flip side, I probably design a lot of spaces that aren’t for everyone either. AND THAT’S OK. We all have our own taste, our own style, our own aesthetic. Not to mention, personal style evolves over time. It’s ok to change your mind. It’s ok to dislike trends. It’s ok. There’s no wrong answer. Which leads me to my own space. My front stoop. I refreshed this space earlier this year for summer and as the seasons change, so does my decor. I jumped on the mum bandwagon real hard this fall and when I finally came up for air, I realized I may have gone a bit overboard, leaving myself wondering, “Did I overdo it?”
I immediately snapped a few shots with my iPhone and sent to my most trusted advisors…my mom and my aunt, naturally.
According to Moms: “You usually don’t go that busy!” In case it’s not clear, that’s code for: “Meg, check yoself. That’s too busy.”
Me: “I just couldn’t help myself!!”
According to Aunt Jane: “I hear you, baby. I hear you all the way.”
So whether you are a minimalist (Moms) or a maximalist (Aunt Jane), there’s no wrong answer. Sometimes less is more and sometimes more is well…more!
I hope this provides you with some inspiration for your own front stoop/porch/landing/spot…or whatever you have at the moment!
