SPREADABLE CHEESE OPTIONS
There are many options for spreadable garlic cheese. I love both Boursin and Alouette! The garlic flavors are to die for! Of course, you can always opt for a plain cream cheese and add your own garlic to it. If you are not a fan of garlic, I recommend the chive or herb flavors. You really can’t go wrong, but garlic is my favorite for this recipe.
TOMATO OPTIONS
Feel free to use any tomatoes you like in this recipe. Everyone seems to go bananas for heirloom tomatoes, but just about any type of tomato will do. As you can see here I used a variety. I love the way the different colors and shapes look together. We eat with our eyes first, after all! 🙂
SUBSTITUTIONS FOR TOMATOES
Feel free to get creative with the veggies in this recipe! My recommendations if you absolutely hate tomatoes are: asparagus, mushrooms and caramelized onions, or thinly sliced zucchini.
PUFF PASTRY
If you’re not familiar with puff pastry sheets, you can find them in a frozen section at the grocery store next to the pie crusts. They are light, fluffy and absolutely delicious. I use them all the time in various recipes, which I have noted below. The brand I find most often in my neck of the woods is Pepperidge Farm.
FAVORITE BAKING SHEETS
I LOVE these baking / cooking sheets. They come in two sizes which is great for smaller dishes or appetizers. I use them for recipes like this classic tomato tart with garlic and basil and also for baking cookies.
WHAT TO SERVE WITH THE TOMATO TART
This recipe is delicious any time of day, but I especially love it for brunch. Serve it up with some eggs, fruit salad or spinach salad, mimosas, coffee – and you’ve got yourself a restaurant worthy brunch! You could even add some breakfast meat on the side for the meat lovers in your life! YUM!
